During our study of John Steinbeck’s novella, we will focus on the implications of discrimination. What are the lessons we can learn from George and Lennie, and how can we apply them to our own lives? How are people treated differently because of their race, age, gender, or social class today?
Students will be defining, identifying, and explaining the effect of different literary devices. Students will learn how to properly identify an important selection of the text, and then use close reading practices to analyze it.
During this unit students will reinforce their understanding of the PIE writing method (please see http://www.bhsenglish.com for an explanation of PIE) . A PIE paragraph will be the student’s final assessment for this unit.
